Naomi Punk – "N/A"

NaomiPunk Naomi Punk "N/A"
This is just one of those tracks. There’s. something. about. this. song. It’s from Seattle native Naomi Punk’s debut. It’s not like the rest of the album. It was recorded by her mom (who grew up and works in Africa) in a village in Rwanda and the sounds were manipulated and tweaked (subtly and effectively) by Naomi. The song features African school children chanting along with some lo-fi musical backing, percussion, and handclaps.

Lo-Fi music sometimes exudes pretentiousness and self-indulgence. These school children add such a strong element of genuine human spirit that, over the saturated and slightly muffled backdrop, something special is created. Saw it at GVB.
