New! Spoon – "Mean Red Spider"

Spoon’s new album Transference comes out next week and this is the b-side to the lead single. It’s a pudgy little track with broken glasses and sloppy, ill-fitting attire. It’s much less polished than most of Spoon’s work, but definitely has that same simplistic and melodic style to it. Musically, I really like this one, but the phrase “mean red spider” turns me off for some reason. To me, it brings up images of bad guys in animated childrens’ movies.
