La Blogotheque has captured a great acoustic set by Vampire Weekend that takes place in France. I can’t tell you much background information, because I don’t speak French, but it’s both intimate and energetic – a great set – and the French seem to be really into it. The full set is 23 minutes, and features new stuff, old stuff, and a cover. Who knew Ezra could speak French so well?
Contra has been out for a little while now. Any thoughts? It seems like it had a polarizing effect among fans. Vampire Weekend has been really successful at branding themselves, and I think this is part of the reason that some scrooges are getting upset. It’s always a little disheartening to see your favorite indie band become a brand, but it’s also part of the music business, and as long as the music is good, I’m okay with it. The music industry faces the large task of balancing art and product, and everyone has their own idea of what “selling out” is. That being said, I enjoy Contra, and I’m still a Vampire Weekend fan.
Thanks to La Blogotheque and Will
