Arcade Fire – “The Suburbs” & “Month Of May”

arcadefire 500x399 Arcade Fire The Suburbs & Month Of May

Ever since Arcade Fire emerged on the scene, they’ve been one of those bands that everyone compares other bands to. If you’re an indie rock band and you don’t sound like The Decemberists, The Shins, Animal Collective, Modest Mouse, or Vampire Weekend, then there’s a good chance you sound like Arcade Fire.

These are just radio rips (meaning the sound quality leaves something to be desired), so check them out to get an idea of what’s to come. “The Suburbs” sounds like the Arcade Fire we’re all used to – acoustic guitar layered beneath a wall of sound created by the 7 (I think) piece band with Win Butler’s unrestrained vocals leading the way. “Month Of May” is a little surprising. First of all, it’s driven by distorted guitars full of more punkish testosterone than we’re used to from these guys. Win Butler sounds like a breathy Win Butler impersonator at points in the song, and the song lacks the subtle darkness that is almost always present in Arcade Fire’s work. It reminds me a little of a heavier Violent Femmes, which works for me. Thanks to Will
