Nirvana – “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Beatnick & K-Salaam Remix)

20100520 NIRVANA Nirvana Smells Like Teen Spirit (Beatnick & K Salaam Remix)

Nirvana’s biggest weakness is that their music will forever be associated with the 90′s. Shit, is “grunge” even around anymore, not counting your 30 year old basement dwelling neighbor’s band? Not really. I’m not trying to dismiss the band as forgettable (I was the kid with 10 Kurt Cobain posters), but timeless doesn’t really describe their sound. Nirvana will always be 90′s rock. Enter Beatnick & K-Salaam. Thanks to Shake.

timeless doesn’t describe their sound? are you serious?
if you did indeed have 10 of their posters on your wall, you should feel ashamed of yourself.

Nirvana is many things. They were a great band and had a huge influence on music. They will always have a place in my heart. But I stand by the comment that their sound is not timeless. I don’t mean that it can’t be enjoyed today, just that it is the epitome of a niche sound that lasted for a short time, and Nirvana will forever be associated with that time period. Actually, I don’t know how you could call Nirvana timeless. It just doesn’t make sense, no matter how much you like them.
