Lissie is pretty awesome. Steadily gaining buzz for a while now she played, I think, 17 shows at SXSW this year. I’m not sure of the exact number but it was the most of anyone at the festival. Rocker chicks are one of my favorite species of musician. This girl has got all the ingredients of the aforementioned type; soul, grit, and sex appeal. Her voice, a mixture of soulful emotion and a Nina Simone like jazz sound, is very soothing. This is a cover she did of Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness“. It gets better as the intensity of the song grows and she really really gets into it so watch the whole thing (please).

Yeah, its a lot like the barbara cover, but a lot more intense. She does a great job putting her own twist on it. It’s a great cover.

Don’t get me wrong, I really like this video, and the cover is probably the best I’ve heard (way better than Barbara), but I think it is really funny to watch what guitarist do with their hands after they put their guitar down. It’s kind of crazy…I’m guessing it’s weird feeling not to have your guitar in front of you while your on a stage in front of hundreds of people.
