Moxie Black – “So Much Better”

moxie black so much better 500x500 Moxie Black So Much Better

I introduced you to Moxie Black a little while ago, but that was just the intro. That was one of the more accessible, instantly understandable party jams that you could rock on a Saturday night without any raised eyebrows.

This? This is my shit. This is the shit I’ve been putting on all my playlists. This is the shit that gives new wave music a fitted cap and welcomes it into 2010 with a secret handshake. This is the shit I’ve been waiting to share. Mmm. Beautiful music, beautiful production. I love, love, love this song.

Call it the summer-jam of 2010, easy to reminisce to, but so much better to make new memories with. One part indie-pop, two parts hip-hop, shake, stir, now drink it up!

So I downloaded this song and listened to it once, and really like it. I put it on repeat and got a phonecall from PacSun that I interviewed at last week and they told me I got the job, all this happened while listening to this song. I have an immediate love for Moxie Black.

  2. Coolio says:

Yeah I caught that first post, nice to hear more from these dudes. Different for sure, still diggin’ it tho.

  3. DJ Green says:

Damn. The way Confusion hyped this up, I thought this was gonna be the jam. Unfortunately, their doing what every other band on the blog circuit these days seems to be doing and going with the Chiddy sound. I still got love for them though cause of their previous work in Portland. I won’t hate, but I’m a little disappointed in its lack of uniqueness.

  4. Confusion says:

Really? I don’t think this sounds anything like Chiddy Bang has ever done. I like this track a lot.

  5. Jammin says:

These guys sound like chiddy? Wrong.

They sound like Moxie Black. And I dig it.

  6. DJ Green says:

Imagine the MC of Chiddy singing through autotune and not rapping. It’d probably end up sounding exactly like this. I guess that means I’m referring more to the subject matter and beat than the vocal flow when comparing the two. I do, however, respect both guys very much. The layers towards the end and the beat overall are pretty dope. And, it is very catchy. Good summer track for sure. I guess I was just expecting a little bit more from these guys.

  7. Flea says:

    Summer JAM!!! Ha lovin it!

  8. Landforce says:

So what DJ Green is saying… is IF this track sounded different, then it’d sound like something else.

    Bravo..

  9. DJ Green says:

“I’m referring more to the subject matter and beat than the vocal flow when comparing the two?”

Your twitter says not to take you too seriously, so I’ma just ignore that one.

  10. kstone says:

Greens gotta point. Seems like you guys are constantly posting these hipster rappers over quirky little electronic beats. Shit sounds the same to me. I guess its yo style though. A little variety would be coo.

    We’d like to clarify a few things…

    1. We are different from Chiddy Bang because WE DO NOT SAMPLE except for one song on our album that is a mash-up. Everything you hear outside of that is an original composition or remix. In other words, this music comes directly from our creative center.

    2. Rap and Hip Hop are only elements of our music and are by no means the basis of our style. We are huge fans of hip hop culture and we are aware that our music stretches outside of it’s boundaries. We’re not trying to be anything or any genre, we’re just trying to make the most creative music that we can. Moxie is about pushing ourselves to become more complete, well rounded artists.

    3. Although we use auto-tune, we do not use it heavily. iLLA is an extremely talented vocalist. We chose to use light autotune on this body of work because it furthered the electro sound that we wanted. Autotune added a “feel” to the music that we decided was necessary in doses. You will notice that not every song has autotune once you hear the albums.

DJ Green, we’re not sure who you are or what you expected from us, but we appreciate you sharing your honest opinion. I think that if you spent an evening in the studio with us you would quickly come to realize that we are not a replication of anything or anyone else. Much of this album was completed before we even knew Chiddy Bang existed.

Thanks to all for showin love!! We’ll be back soon!

    Dekk,
Didn’t mean to show hate or anything because I still think you guys are dope. I know your work through Luck and Illa’s work with Mikey Vegas because I produce around Portland too (worked with Lifesavas, Cool Nutz, Sandpeople). I admit my Chiddy statement was a little harsh, so for that my bad. This song is not really my cup of tea, but I can definitely see the talent in the both of ya. Keep doing your thing.

  13. Nonesense says:

This sounds alarmingly similar to Forever by Drake, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Kanye West. The sound structure is a total rip off.

can’t we all just agree that this song will ALWAYS be on your “Ohhhh Shit It’s SUMMER mix”…?

    timeless storytelling and good times.
