Throwback, because it’s Saturday and I’m drinking my first ever Four Loko (caffeine + 12% alcohol? Yes, please.) As much as I love to listen to a lot of mainstream hip-hop, it’s hard to defend sometimes. I guess there shouldn’t be a need to defend what music you like listening to, but I used to be one of those kids who valued creativity, originality, and content above all.
As much as I like some of these new songs about drinking, selling drugs, fucking bitches, whatever, every now and then a wave of guilt comes over me. It’s not a clear issue to me – I’m a firm believer that you should be able to say whatever you want in music. I would never hope for a world where there wasn’t a rapper that talked about fucking bitches. There’s a place for everything and music should never be censored, but when most popular music starts to deal with the same content, it does raise a few red flags. It’s still an issue I’m struggling with, and I can’t lie, right before I started digging into my old underground music I was listening to Gucci and Lil B. Whatever, Four Loko bitches! Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Being from TN, grew up on 3-6 Mafia among other early to mid 90s dirty south…the older I got the older it got and then around 2001 or so (thanks to the net) I found all these artists you giving love to, but I ain’t gonna lie…sometimes when I’m in a car with little bump in the trunk, I got to put in some 3-6 and get my guilty pleasure on..even though I hate the lyrics most of the time.
