Kanye West ft. Pusha T – Runaway

Here’s the MP3 of Kanye‘s finale performance of “Runaway” featuring Pusha T. I think Pusha coming out on stage was the VMA highlight for me. From MTV:

Kanye West just shut down the 2010 Video Music Awards with an ethereal performance featuring some surprising guests. With an Akai MPC2000 drum machine on stage, auto-tuned microphone, ballet dancers and the latest addition to the G.O.O.D. Music family, Pusha T, Ye’ toasted “to the a–holes” (perhaps even himself) and stunned the crowd at L.A.’s Nokia Theater. Word is the chants of “Let’s have a toast for the a–holes, have a toast for the jerk-offs, let’s have a toast for the scumbags” continued well past Kanye exiting stage left for his dressing room.

    ok…Kanye is an idiot and nobody can argue that point. The guy thinks he deserves an award because he wakes up in the morning. Last year it was because he lost to BEP, this year he comments…give a black man a chance? um…wait…i grew up in the era where Herbie Hancock got his start and unless a LOT has changed…um…hes black Kanye..and a HELL of a lot more talented than your bitchin ass. Wonder what he would do if he was grouped with Snoop, Ice-T, and 50…and lost…maybe then he would realize…ok race has nothing to do with it…nah prolly not, it would be because the man voted for them because he was scared! Jimi Hendrix..now theres talent…listen to it Kanye. and do it with a sock in your mouth.

    when I first heard the beat at the end of the video preview I was excited. then he sings a shitty chorus and autotunes himself again. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am.

    I loved the song. Piano sample playing over and over is addicting, and the melody is catchy too. I am biased though, I love anything Kanye puts out. I’m just glad to see his resurrection on stage compared to last year.

    @orlando auto insurance,

    Coming from someone that adores Jimi Hendrix’s work, philosophy and overall style, I think that it is not fair to say Ye is not an idiot.

    Similar to Jimi in his day, Ye is someone that is unmatched today in terms of contemporary production skills, innovative collaboration with artists (including Takashi Murakami, Kaws, etc.), evolving the fashion-sense (or at least starting a new dialogue about it), not to mention being extremely successful in terms of record sales (going PLATINUM in the download-era)… Ye is not an idiot.

    Socially, a little off? Sure.

    But what transcending artist isn’t?
