Mike Posner – “The Scientist” (Coldplay Cover)

Mike Posner Mike Posner The Scientist (Coldplay Cover)

Mike Posner dished out some new material for us recently.  This time he’s remade a version of Coldplay’s piano ballad, “The Scientist”.  This song was somewhat of an obsession for me when it first released.  It’s such a delicate and beautiful piece of work.  Admittedly I was concerned a bit when I read Posner was releasing a cover, but in all fairness  he does a respectable job with it.  You can judge for yourself with a listen below.

After the jump view an new episode of “Maestro Knows” where host Levi Maestro spends time kicking it with Mike through the various grinds of his daily routine. Towards the end there’s some footage of Posner working on this track.  It’s cool to see him focused and in his element. Enjoy.

Can’t agree with you on this one, I think this cover is a totally unnecessary and overproduced version of a simple classic. That track should be left alone.

that concert was the illest thing ever, i was there. it was on may 13th at UC San Diego, yearly music festival called SunGod Festival. The lineup was Posner, Jimmy Eat World, Big Sean, Best Coast, Crystal Castles, JFK of MSTRKRFT with Wiz Khalifa headlining. free for students

I just cant take his voice… The music is good though. It might have been cool just as a remix keeping Chris Martin’s vocals. But yea i agree with Zane.. Leave Coldplay covers alone for at least another 10 years

I hear you guys. Do have to point out though that this track has been covered numerous times in the past by other artists. Natasha Beddingfield, Belinda Carlisle, etc. Sum 41 replicated the chord progression in one of their songs. So it’s not like Posner is forging a new road here with this. I don’t mind the production work, but agree that his vocals are subpar. Overall it’s average at best.

    Thanks for the comments.
