“I’m just trying to create this party I have in my head” is what Star Slinger told us about what he’s trying to do with his music. And with his recent slew of remixes, he’s definitely proving that the party in his head is something that doesn’t exist in many other places. After reinterpreting Drake‘s “Over My Dead Body” to mixed reactions, Darren Williams has turned his attention to another hip-hop hype machine – ASAP Rocky.
“Peso” is an internet classic at this point, so say what you will about Star Slinger, but he is unafraid to take on ambitious projects. I don’t think many people are going to like this one – the pitched-up vocals alone destroy the carefully cultivated hazy atmosphere of the original. However, he’s definitely onto something with those effervescent synth stabs that pop up under the chorus. It’s a completely different song, and not necessarily in a good way, but it’s worth listening to and a cool re-envisioning into something completely new.
