Bon Iver Video: Bon Iver Blesses SNL

For every questionable Saturday Night Live performance we witness, there are hundreds of others that find residence on the greener side of the opinion fence. Ones that remind us why we fell hypnotically entranced with the intricacies of an artist’s song writing, with their commanding and confident stage presence, and why it still remains so cool that we have the luxury of seeing live music week in and week out on an “old school” platform that originally debuted all the way back in 1975.

Tonight Justin Vernon and crew, collectively known as Bon Iver, took to the stages of SNL to perform “Holocene” and “Beth/Rest”, two stand out tracks off the commercially and critically acclaimed 2011 Bon Iver release. With recent news that it may be another three to five years before we get a new album from the group, their appearance tonight feels particularly special. See below to view both performances. Hopefully we hear something new from them sooner than later, but then again with music this beautiful, it seems impossible to rush.

i was a big fan before but this performance showed me how emotional his music really is so now seeing him live is on my bucket list

@Jessie absolutely catch him / them live. I’ve had the opportunity to see Bon Iver in concert twice and loved it both times.

    wow that was incredible

  7. ross says:

his music would be sooo much better if he’d drop that awful falsetto thing and sing an octave lower is his natural voice. Singing in falsetto is not a full time thing, and never should be.

  8. Stevesy says:

@ Ross He sings in his regular register for pretty all the verses on Beth/Rest so I dont know what exactly you problem is. The falsetto is during the parts that needed it.

Anyways, This performance is pretty incredible. You don’t have very many acts that can put pure music like this out there especially for a TV performance. Also I think they killed both songs. Better than the album recordings if you ask me and that is HARD to beat.

@ross: ya I agree I mean the beach boys weren’t a full time thing..
