The Black Keys Apologize For Dissing Nickelback, Kind Of

These guys. Earlier this year, The Black Keys‘ drummer Patrick Carney called Nickelback “shit,” and expressed how disappointed he was that a band like that was representing rock music to the mainstream. Then the bro from Nickelback responded, and it started to look like this may turn into all out rock beef.

The Black Keys sat down with MTV and issued an apology, but it may just end up fanning the flame. “I didn’t mean to single them out, actually,” explains Carney. “It just kind of came out. There’s much worse bands than Nickelback… maybe.”

Then he and singer Dan Auerbach laughed, and no fucks were given.

Everyone’s entitled to his or her opinion, but when you’re in the spotlight and have a fanbase, you’ve got to remember that there may be other bands that your fans like that you don’t. And you can sorta alienate those fans because it seems like you’re belittling their taste.

  • Confusion

I think that’s almost always true with everything, but people respect honesty. If you’re too busy worrying about alienating people you’re gonna end up so bland that you don’t really appeal to anyone. I know that, for me, I agree that Nickelback is shit and I’m happy to hear a band like The Black Keys say it.

And I dont think it’s just about them being like “we don’t like this band.” I think their stance is more that Nickelback is fundamentally shitty music and the fact that it’s so popular is sad. I don’t know. I’m with Patrick on this one. Hope that doesn’t alienate too many P&P readers.

  • Jumi

I don’t care for either bands.

And then no fucks were given for Jumi’s opinion… lol. Kidding. Kind of.

@N.S. Cranor Maybe BK’s will use their next BlakRoc project as a vehicle to dis Nickelback, hahaha.
