“Lungs” was as good an introduction to a new artist as I’ve ever heard, and the video that followed it was a moody, flickering representation of the very real heartbreak one could hear in the song. Not only did Py (real name Jade Pybus) have killer vocals, but she had secured production from George FitzGerald, so when I learnt that there was a whole mixtape on the way, which continued along this path of collaborating with exciting new (generally dance music orientated) producers I couldn’t wait to hear the final product.
The mixtape is out today, and production credits include Lapalux, Raffertie, Damu, indie experimentalists Breton and a lot more exciting names, all providing shimmering backdrops over which Py’s gorgeous voice can soar. Even if you know none of the producers, Py’s voice is certainly the main pull here, and this free tape is a strong opening statement from soulful, talented vocalist. Follow Py on Facebook, and if you’re still hainvg doubts, listen again to “Lungs” before downloading the mixtape below.
