Today’s release of the 2012 Lollapalooza schedule is just another reminder of how quickly this year is blowing by us. The three-day event held each August in Chicago’s Grant Park rounds out the holy trinity of major summer music festivals alongside Coachella and Bonnaroo, both of which are already in the books. The schedule this year looks just as attractive and conflicting as it ever, with fans being forced to pick between seeing acts like Passion Pit and The Shins on Friday, Twin Shadow, Bloc Party and Calvin Harris, or Frank Ocean, Avicii and The Red Hot Chili Peppers on Saturday, and The Big Pink and Miike Snow or Childish Gambino, Justice, Jack White and Kaskade on Sunday night. How does one decide??
Once you have your day and early evening agenda all sorted out, next on the task list is to figure out which aftershows to attend at various venues around the city. This is a great way to make up for acts you had to forgo while at the festival grounds, but the options are comparatively limited and you will likely only be able to hit one, maybe two per night if you’re willing to cough up the cab fare. Those participating include Alabama Shakes, Kids These Days, Dr. Dog, tUnE-yArDs w/ Washed Out, The War on Drugs, Of Monsters and Men, The Afghan Whigs, and so on. Be sure to plan this weekend well in advance and most importantly be safe!
