5 Artists To Check Out If You Like Danny Brown

Previous / NextShift + → 1 of 6

Over the past two years, Detroit native Danny Brown has worn weirdness on his sleeve and exploded to the pinnacle of independent hip-hop, moving from the abandoned fields of his hometown he raps of on his breakthrough LP XXX to touring with rising rap stars Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky. Mixing high octane flows with vivid imagery that runs down extensive experiences with drugs, sex, and crime (for both celebratory and cautionary purposes), Danny has cut a unique lane for himself. As one of the most unique artists in hip-hop right now, he can’t be imitated, but if you like what Danny Brown brings to the table, here are five other artists that you might dig.

Danny Brown is an exact hybrid of Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Kool Keith.

I was on Danny Brown’s Pandora station, and then this artist named Dopehead came up. He sounded JUST like him, and had pretty much the same context as the rest of Danny’s song. Idk if he was being a biter, but it was a pretty good song.

I guess he and danny did a song together.

Blueprint of Soul Position (collab’d w/RJD2)

  • Confusion

Damn that’s a pretty good one RBI4400. I never really thought of that before but they do both have that loud, energetic flow.

@Brittany – I may not have included Nacho Picasso in this list, but I never forget about Nacho Picasso. “Exalted” is one of the best albums of the year.
