In the last few months, Chicago has garnered positive attention for an emergent and often very exciting hip-hop scene that touts artists like Kids These Days (and their SAVEMONEY crew affiliates Chance the Rapper and Kami de Chukwu, among others), Chief Keef, Legit, Rockie Fresh, and a slew of other young, hungry rappers. According to non profit organization the Lost Childhoods–“a platform for discourse and resolution around the issue of the youth homicide”–Chicago has experienced a nine year high in homicides in 2012, with over 300 killings through this summer (already a 26% increase from last year).

In order to raise awareness for this depressing phenomenon, Lost Childhoods has partnered with Chicago-based artists to release a series of short leaks as part of a larger project to be revealed in fuller detail by the end of August. The second of these leaks comes from rapper Dave Coresh. “The Lost Childhoods Easter” is a short, smoldering take on the city’s continuing problem. Check it out below.
