Some unfortunate news to share today. It’s being reported by various sources, including the New York Daily News, that veteran hip-hop manager Chris Lighty has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As a respected pillar of the hip-hop community, Lighty was widely heralded for the work he did alongside some of the genres biggest and brightest stars. Past clients include Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, Missy Elliott, Diddy, Ja Rule and 50 Cent. Lighty also founded and operated the record label and entertainment conglomerate, Violator. He was 44.
Artists react on Twitter to Lighty’s passing:
R I P Chris Lighty SMH to the mongrels that have made the BLACKmusic industry a depressing game to drag such good cats into a pit of bullsht
