Lapalux – “The Hours”

Though Clams Casino can’t be solely credited for the atmospheric brand of production so prevalent across the blogosphere (and currently creeping into the mainstream through the vessel of artists like A$AP Rocky), his brand of mystical, murky sounds certainly helped define a lane so many now inhabit. Luckily, there’s lots of room for expansion and experimentation within that style. For the past couple of years, British producer Lapalux has developed a style that merges the disjointed vocals so prevalent in Clams’ beats with a shimmering synths and warm bass, crafting an aesthetic both uplifting and haunting, capable of evoking multiple moods at once as the best instrumental music can. Mmmmm. Please let a good rapper get a hold of this and blow the production up in the mainstream, because this is excellent. (Im looking at you, Jay Electronica).

Lapalux has actually been doing it big longer than Clams Casino has, underground wise (or Soundcloud wise at the very least). He’s so hugely rooted in the Soundcloud scene though that the musical crossover is not entirely there, and he’ll never get that big, despite being known largely on SC. Nevertheless, he’s a prime producers. Listen to his old tracks, especially Yellow 90′s; it came out like a year ago and it was pretty game changing for me personally.

@Age 19–Word, been a fan of Lapalux for a minute. I suppose from the sound of it I was suggesting that Clams influenced Lapalux. Not really the case, so much as highlighting the fact that Clams has carved out a higher profile lane for this sort of production.
