lil wayne2 Lil Wayne Breaks Elvis Record For Most Billboard Hits By A Male Artist

Lil Wayne turns 30 today. With “No Worries” making its way onto the Billboard Hot 100, Wayne has surpassed Elvis Presley to become the male artist with the most hits to appear on the chart. Elvis had 108, and this is Tunechi’s 109th.

Happy birthday, Lil Wayne. Never change.

^^^^ You seriously like Elvis better? Not saying that Weezy deserves such an accomplishment, but I’ve never understood why people like Elvis’s music so much.

Good for the Lil Wayne. But let’s put things in perspective. Larger market/audience/youth population, easier access through technology, more disposable income. Not to mention that EP’s career predated the Billboard Top 100(1958)by at least 3 yrs when he had some of his biggest hits making it, in reality, an untrue comparison. As the biggest influence on popular music in history and for kicking down barriers for African American artists in the segregated south of the 1950′s his early years/hits should be included as it was the essence of who he was as an artist. Not what Hollywood and Col. Parker turned him into. Yes he performed Black r & b but to paraphrase 50 Cent, Elvis didn’t rip anyone off. He did it his own way, changed the music and beat and made it into Rock n Roll. Elvis has been the gold standard for comparison for every artist ever since including Lil Wayne. Like his music or not that is simply remarkable. I doubt Lil Wayne or any other artist will ever touch his total worldwide records sales. Look it up. 2.5 billion and counting! It’s up in the stratosphere. In the meantime, let’s see if Lil Wayne or anyone else that takes the stage can hold the Bill Board record for 45 years! Does Lil Wayne have hits in any other genre than Hip-Hop? Elvis had hits in at least three different genres. Some simultaneously. Does Lil Wayne have a diverse generational (young & old) and ethnic/cultural appeal around the world? Don’t think so. As John Lennon said, “Before Elvis there was nothing.” Michael Jackson idolized Elvis. MJ wanted to be like him so much that he and his manager invented the “King of Pop” moniker and he married Lisa Marie. And considering that Glee and its huge productions has double the number of Billboard top 100 hits of either artist it really doesn’t say much except to reaffirm a larger market/youth pop, easier access through technology and more disposable income to the Justin Beiber age group (Bieber: who I see playing off some early Elvis schtick in his videos trying to project a rebel image – Check out Bieber’s video with the convertible scene and female companion(s). Note Bieber’s pompadour hairstyle – check out early Elvis pics in his ’57 Lincoln continental or scenes from the movie, Loving You. Elvis still casts a giant shadow.
