Epic Records Has Dropped Death Grips

death grips deconstructing Epic Records Has Dropped Death Grips

In a completely unsurprisingly turn of events after all the drama that’s gone down between Death Grips and Epic Records because of NO LOVE DEEP WEB, Pitchfork has reported that Epic has decided to drop Death Grips. Here’s the official statement from Epic:

Epic Records is a music first company that breaks new artists. That is our mission and our mandate. Unfortunately, when marketing and publicity stunts trump the actual music, we must remind ourselves of our core values. To that end, effective immediately, we are working to dissolve our relationship with Death Grips. We wish them well.

Death Grips shared an email from Epic that requested for all links to NO LOVE DEEP WEB be removed only yesterday, trolling hard in the process, and they’ve also removed their Twitter account. It’s apparent now that Death Grips simply cannot be tamed. If you haven’t listened to NO LOVE DEEP WEB yet, give it a go here. Who’s excited to see how Death Grips will respond?

THE BACKLASH AGAINST DEATH GRIPS’ ALBUM LEAK

Unsurprising? I seem to remember you guys (along with a few other blogs) suggesting it was all just a publicity stunt at the time.

  • Confusion

I still stand by our skepticism. The fact that Death Grips signed to a major label and was then surprised when their album got pushed back enough to be like “fuck it let’s leak this shit.”

I’d like to get the full story. Was the plan to fuck over the label from the beginning? Bc I think they are smart enough to know how major labels operate, especially when it comes to things that aren’t easily accessible to the mainstream.

Seriously… FUCK the major record labels. I think their motto is $$$ first, second and third then maybe quality music.
