The 15 Albums That Have Sold One Million Copies in Their First Week

Previous / NextShift + → 1 of 16

This week, Billboard reported that Taylor Swift‘s Red sold 1.21 million copies in its first week, giving it the best first-week album sales since Eminem’s The Eminem Show in 2002. Red also joined the shortlist of albums to sell a million copies or more in their first week in the Soundscan era (1991-Present), becoming only the 15th addition to the list (and the first since Swift’s last album Speak Now in 2010). While sales are an increasingly faulty metric for judging an artist’s success, the million-sold mark is typically a solid barometer for career health. It certainly doesn’t seem like Taylor’s hurting. Most of the artists on this list don’t have much to complain about either. Except, maybe, for Limp Bizkit.

(NOTE: Lady Gaga’s Born This Way was not included on this list. While it did sell 1.1 million units in its first week of release, many of those copies were heavily discounted by Amazon to 99 cents. As such, Billboard does not recognize those as “album sales.” While the debate rages on about what should constitute an “album sold,” we decided to stick to albums acknowledged by Billboard)

I can’t even front on Taylor Swift. She does make some catchy-ass songs.
