Well, this is a pleasant surprise. From the depths of the early 2000s (around the time the rapper was working on breakthrough album Labor Days), Aesop Rock unleashes “Hall of Game,” an unreleased track produced by long time collaborator Blockhead. It packs the energy and density that typified Aesop at the time and matches it with one of Blockhead’s intricately crafted sample-scapes. “Hall of Game” is a reminder of the sound that made Aesop one of the underground’s most exciting (and divisive–if you’re not a fan, this track won’t change your mind) figures at the dawn of the new millennium. Check it out.
