It’s always a gamble when a band’s frontman decides to release a solo effort: you have some fans that will be into it because they are supportive of any endeavors the band members take; and then you have some that will be extra critical, constantly comparing the sounds of the two projects. Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff will most likely experience this polarization, with the release of his new solo project, Lovestreams. The first single, “Shock Corridor” is noticeably different than Okkervil River; it’s more electro-pop than folk rock, with a flurry of synths and gloomy percussion. The track is the first of the upcoming project, which Sheff will be offering for free. He writes on his website:

I decided to do a project there I’d wanted to do for years and years, which is to make an album by myself and for myself, an album that doesn’t owe anything to music I made before. When I finished the album I decided I’d give some the songs away for free since it cost almost nothing to make.
