Miss Elizabeth – “Richmond Girls”

Miss Elizabeth is Tom Avis and Odie Ouderkirk, a Toronto duo crafting an updated take on shoegaze. Comparable to M83 and the Cocteau Twins as recognizable references, Miss Elizabeth has a charming instability to their music that sets them apart from the heady maximalism of something like “Midnight City” while still containing a whole host of the same ideas and sounds, just inventively repurposed. “Richmond Girls” is apparently about friendship maturing through time, distance and politics, but I can’t ever listen to the lyrics for long enough before getting caught up in the synths and vocal melody, so someone will have to fact check that one for me. It’s off their Luger¬†EP, which will be out soon.
