As a tried and true saying goes, better late than never. Not always, but an excuse to bring back one of the tracks that first alerted us to Chicago’s Kami de Chukwu is one worth seizing. Mixing found footage (from such cheery film classics as Network and Videodrome), eerie jump cuts, and distorted images, the video for “Ig’nant” creates a sense of raw darkness. While it’s far removed from the low-budget, fast-and-dirty visuals of fellow Chicagoan DGainz (of “I Don’t Like” fame or infamy, depending on your side of the coin), “Ig’nant” feels inspired by the violence of Kami’s hometown, which saw a striking increase in homicides in 2012.
