Aside from the brilliance that is their clever spelling/name pun (Get it? the Mary Onettes… like marionettes… like puppets? Get it??) Swedish group The Mary Onettes have been also releasing some incredible music recently. Synths are layered over trickles of slowed-down pop, but never in a nostalgic way. I love it when a song somehow manages to sonically match the subject matter — and “Hit the Waves” feels like a saunter down a sandy beach, lapped at the edges by salt water. Listen to the dreamy ’80s fever dream below and look for their third studio album of the same name, Hit the Waves, which will come out on 3/12 through Labrador Records.
