Louisville locals Whistle Peak have released their first single “Long Run” from their forthcoming album Put To Flight, a record that will include twelve unreleased songs that they’ve recorded over the past 10 years. I was first turned onto the band when We Listen For You wrote about their 2012 release Half Asleep On Echo Falls at the beginning of last year, but this new track feels hugely expansive and wide awake.
Weird and wild, the track features bleeps, bloops, sound sampling, and some mournful sounding strings that appear at the most unexpected moments. The vocal stylings are reminiscent of Modest Mouse at peak droning, but those harmonies feel decidedly influenced by southern rock. Stream it below and look for more from this band the new album is out on April 22 via their bandcamp.
