Jaymes Young’s sound has proven difficult to categorize. His first offering “Dark Star” embodied a melancholy, electro r&b-esque vibe. His next, “Wondering,” possessed an equally gloomy lyrical content but with a much poppier production. Now, we get his latest “Hold You Down” and Young has again switched it up on us. Noticeably faster paced, the track seems to abandon some of his previous emotive electronic nuances in favor of a sweeping, infectious chorus.
It’s an interesting choice of progression for such a new artist. At a point in his career when you’d think he’d aim to have audiences associate a particular sound with his name he’s in fact succeeded at the exact opposite, and perhaps in doing so has caught our attention in an entirely new way.
