In an attempt to “stand up for their fellow musicians,” Thom Yorke and fellow Atoms For Peace member Nigel Godrich took to Twitter today to announce that they have pulled their music from Spotify. Atoms For Peace’s debut album, AMOK, material from Godrich’s side-project Ultraísta and Yorke’s solo album, The Eraser, are all no longer available on the streaming service.
In a lengthy, but thoughtful series of tweets from Godrich, he explains that having a service like Spotify is bad for new music, as these artists stand to make little money from having their music on it. It’s an interesting issue Yorke and Godrich bring up and one that, as physical CDs become more obsolete and our dependence on these streaming services as a way to hear new music rises, will certainly continue to be a hotly debated one in the industry. Check out what they had to say above.
