Have you seen the above symbol—a circle with a diamond and the word “Reflektor” in it—in your neighborhood recently? According to several sources and a couple of strong clues, this may be related to Arcade Fire‘s forthcoming album.
Since its first sighting, two graffiti artists involved have claimed the art is part of the album’s campaign, according to Consequence of Sound. An Instagram account with the handle @Reflektor has also been created, featuring shots of the graffiti. The most curious upload may be the ominous video that appears on the Instagram account, which was played at Lollapalooza and Osheaga over the weekend, and also over at TheReflektors.com website. With the news of Arcade Fire’s album details coming from the band responding to one fan’s tweet, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see this album employ an unorthodox roll-out. Is the album called Reflektor? Is there some other connection between this graffiti and Arcade Fire? Or is this all an elaborate hoax or misunderstanding? We’ll find out soon enough.
Take a look at the video below, and stay tuned for more updates on Arcade Fire’s fourth record, which is due October 29.
