The Beatles are unquestionably the most beloved, most iconic band of the last century. In so many ways the Fab Four totally redefined music and celebrity culture both in America and internationally. But, despite their overwhelming ubiquity and incredible songwriting, sometimes other musicians pull off a Beatles song better than the original. It's rare, but when it does happen, it's worth noting.   • The Tune

    You’re missing Thrice’s “Eleanor Rigby,” “I Want You,” and “Helter Skelter,” which are better covers (especially the first one) than just about everything on that list.

    It’s amazing how hard it is to find a listenable Beatles cover, especially since they’re the most covered artist in history. They nailed the songs so perfectly the first time that re-doing them almost always falls flat. Of the few exceptions, it’s good to see The Breeders and Al Green on this list, but you missed Marvin Gaye’s “Yesterday” which is just as good if not better than the original (and not overplayed to death).
