Want to see something pretty mind-blowing? In 1988, a little unknown band called Nirvana, which then consisted of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, Chad Channing, and Jason Everman, signed a contract with Sub Pop Records. Weird, but true: That original document has surfaced, as Sub Pop scanned and uploaded the recording contract between themselves and the now legendary band. The most amazing detail is the paltry $600 Nirvana signed for during the deal’s initial term (a number dwarfed by years two and three of the contract which came in at $12,000 and $24,000 respectively, modest in comparison to some of the big advances labels hand out, but downright charitable in comparison to what the group initially got).
