JJ DOOM Release Three New Songs for the Butter Version of “Key to the Kuffs”

As the August 20th countdown for JJ DOOM‘s Butter Version heads into the final stretch, the freak rap duo of DOOM and Jneiro Jarel have released three previously unheard tracks that will feature on the album. The Butter Version of 2012′s Keys to the Kuffs is a reworked/revamped, with the pair recruiting names like Beck, Thom Yorke, and Clams Casino tweaking the original tracklist to create a wholly different album.

The tracks released today have a couple tasty features of their own, though. “The Signs” has Gone The Hero rapping “in the name of love” over jingle bells and a papery beat that lets his sonorous voice round out the sound, and the two come out like one instrument as a result. But the best of the three has to be “Viberian Son,” a woozy, stuttering electronic collage that spikes when Del the Funky Homosapien rips comes in for an extended verse with DOOM doing his signature yowls and fillers in the background. It’s a beautiful combination of DOOM’s bizarre charisma and JJ’s darker, grounded production.

Key to the Kuffs just got a whole new level of hype attached to it. Stream the three tracks below and find out why:
