M.I.A. Reacts to $1.5 Million Lawsuit From the NFL: “Is My Finger Offensive?”

During the 2012 Super Bowl, M.I.A. performed with Nicki Minaj and Madonna, and during the show, she briefly looked into the camera and flipped up her middle finger, a quick gesture that had the NFL pretty upset. The league is hitting M.I.A. with a $1.5 million lawsuit, and today the singer responds to the lawsuit with this video (in which she’s wearing a Raiders sweatshirt). Her perspective: “It’s a massive waste of time, a massive waste of money.” She also questions the NFL’s ethical standards, pointing out that the culture surrounding young cheerleaders is more offensive and potentially harmful than a woman flicking off a camera.

She’s got a point, and her fans have her back:

UPDATE: M.I.A. has now shared the album artwork for her forthcoming album Matangi.
