Former Ben Harper and Ringo Starr percussionist Jordan Richardson has stepped out from behind the drum kit to pursue his own musical career, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. Under the moniker Son of Stan, The Texas-bred, Los Angeles-dwelling multi-instrumentalist released his debut album, Divorce Pop, today via Wizardvizion, and we’re proud to premiere its latest single, “Noxeema.”
What makes Richardson’s music interesting is his juxtaposition of past and future. From the intro’s staggered guitar riff to Richardson’s formulated vocal melody, “Noxeema” pays homage to the pop greats of the ’80s, but is much more than a mere tribute. With the help of producer Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Yo La Tengo), Richardson also nods to the future with a good amount of reverb and lo-fi effects to dirty the sound and create a satisfying sense of dystopia.
