Lady Gaga's new album is called ARTPOP. The singer celebrated its release with a heavily hyped artRAVE (featuring a flying dress, no less), and had previously referred to the album as "a celebration and a poetic musical journey," not to mention a "reverse Warholian expedition," so you could be forgiven for hoping for something avant-garde or at least partially experimental from Gaga. She has shown in the past that she is willing to take risks and experiment within the confines of pop, but the new album, unfortunately, seems to have none of that edge or excitement. There are a few good songs, some interesting collaborations (T.I.! Twista! Too $hort!), but on the whole, the generic electronic production and meek attempts at provocation flatter to deceive.
