Solange to Dev Hynes: “I Just Wished You Were Honest About the Making of My Album”

Dev Hynes produced and co-wrote on Solange’s True EP, but it seems the two have different perspectives in the wake of the release. It may all have something to do with this tweet that Solange sent out back in April saying, “I find it very disappointing when I am presented as the ‘face’ of my music, or a ‘vocal muse’ when I write or co-write every fucking song.”

It seems that she’s unhappy for not getting enough credit for her own project, and the recent Fader story on Dev Hynes brought up the issue again. At one point, it reads: “Hynes says he wrote a good portion of the album entirely himself, especially the songs ‘Losing You’ and ‘Bad Girls,’ which he wrote and recorded versions of before he even knew Solange, with Solange adding mostly structural and vocal changes throughout.”

The recent story brought feelings to the surface and both Dev and Solange took to Twitter to let those feelings be known. Read what they had to say below:

Beefing over twitter is so fucking lame.

  • squatty

dev’s music doesn’t sound like crap like all the other popular music out there… makes me wonder why he even worked with her camp in the first place.. should’ve left her to those crappy EDM bedroom/basement producers that her sister’s crew uses…. i could go off…

But Solange isn’t her sister. Her sound has always been totally different, and she put out some quality work even before working with Dev. I do agree that he made her that much better though.
