Stream Alexander Spit’s Dark, Pscyhedelic New Album “Dillinger”

As a follow up to his psychedelic instrumental mixtape Mansions 2, Californian rapper/producer Alexander Spit dives deeper into the mutated sample-based textures of its predecessor, J Dilla-inspired hip-hop through a bad tripper’s stoned gaze. Combining blunted sketches, morphing journeys (late-tape cut “The Room,” in particular, pushes Spit’s aesthetic to its intriguing limits, shifting and cinematic), and more straight-ahead songs, Dillinger paints a woozily cohesive vision, rap that explores the darker sides of the mind without ever sounding overwhelmingly grim or losing a sense of druggy fun.
