Watch Woodkid Perform a New Song Called “Volcano”

Woodkid played a show in Paris earlier this month, during which he played a surprising new song called “Volcano.” After the delicate piano intro, martial drums kick in, and Woodkid asks “Paris, are you ready to dance?” before a raw, aggressive, straight-up nasty beat drops in, accompanied by some excellent visuals. Although there are those flourishes of his more “traditional” sound in the sweeping horns, this purely instrumental track sounds like a cross between a beat that could have been used on Yeezus and Gesaffelstein’s gritty techno. Check it out above.

INTERVIEW: YOANN LEMOINE ON WORKING WITH LANA DEL REY & WHY HE WON’T RELEASE ANOTHER WOODKID ALBUM FOR 5 YEARS

this is not yeezus material, yeezus was about minimalism, sort of. those dirty sounding drums did excist before kanye used them…
    great song tho

  • Billy’s Kingdom

This song hurts, as the article under says he won’t drop another album for five fucking years!

  • Frenchitup

Please don’t compare Woodkid music with Kanye West. Even comparing him to Gesaffelstein (who’s pure genius btw) is not relevant.

  • youngertwinftw

regardless of whether or not this is Yeezus or Gesaffelstein worthy, this is still a pretty nasty beat

  • Devin Middleton

Must have been AMAZING to hear live.

  • Riley

I don’t think anyone is dancing with him.
