Yesterday, a snowstorm hit New York–not the type that shuts the city down, but the sort that makes transit a chore, that stings all exposed skin, that makes an already grey winter feel grey, already short days darker earlier. Even though the sun came out today, plenty of sooty black snow still lines the streets, a reminder of the city’s endless dirt.
Duo Gorgeous Children’s ICE EP is the sound of black snow, booming 808s underlying all manner of menacing sounds and eery (and occasionally hauntingly beautiful) samples. It’s a decidedly druggy, slowed down affair, not the sort of music you’d want to cozy up to if you’re in doors, but certainly the sonic distillation of walking out on abandoned city streets, late at night beset by flurries.
