Video: Mac DeMarco – “Let My Baby Stay”

In the lead-up to the release of his third solo LP, Salad Days, the Montreal-based artist, Mac DeMarco, has just dropped a new song, “Let My Baby Stay,” along with an accompanying video. What DeMarco has put together certainly isn’t your average music video, as it shows him performing the song in a number of different settings with audio that corresponds to each shift. Set in Portugal, the project finds DeMarco strumming his guitar on a rooftop, in concert, and even while walking on a treadmill.

Still, even with the dramatic changes in audio quality, it’s an endearing tune similar to much of DeMarco’s other jangly, laid-back songs. However, unlike some of his other work, which sometimes uses an easy-going aesthetic to mask darker, deeper sentiments, “Let My Baby Stay” exposes no ulterior motive. It’s simply about DeMarco and a love he doesn’t want to lose.

Salad Days is out April 1 via Captured Tracks.
