Elton John Wants to Make Hip-Hop Records With Pharrell, Loves Kanye West

At 66 years old, you’d think that Sir Elton John would be past the point of reinventing his career. However, in an interview with Rolling Stone, the crown prince of English pop revealed that he wouldn’t be afraid to explore new musical territories.

When asked about incorporating the genre into his music, John replied that, “I’d love to. I just don’t know how to do it. I do love electronica. So, for me, I’d have to work with someone who knows about it, like a Pharrell or a Kanye, who I respect tremendously. I’d love to do that. It’s just a matter of when and where and, should I do it, the mood that I’m in.”

He later re-expressed his admiration for Kanye saying, “In the studio with Kanye, when I was doing that in Honolulu, he was just on fire. It was amazing to watch. You knew you were in the presence of greatness. I knew once I heard four or five tracks from that in the studio, I knew it was going to be a motherfucker of a record.”

That’s right. The man who once made “Tiny Dancer” just called My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy a “motherfucker of a record.” In related news, old people are still the coolest.

just wishing 2pac was still around. maybe Elton needs a refresher on hiphop

  • Funkyj

Eminem has done fuck all in the last decade. Maybe the previous decade but most of what he has recorded since 2004 (which isn’t a lot) is shite.

  • http://klikkit.co.uk/ Jake – Klikkit

someone clearly didn’t listen to Relapse

  • Djincks

  • ill wait

those rappers you mentioned are definitely not influential

ill give you skrillex because of the whole brostep movement but that still can’t compare to the changing tides that follow every time kanye drops a new album

  • Djincks

they have an influence on me. i couldn’t care less about kanye. he has not one track i would say “this belongs on the list” he has some good songs like power but thats it, and its not even that good.

listened to all of his records. and i would rather kill myself than call him an influential person. he is an idiot and money made this idiot.

  • Prince Akeem

21 grammies. more than your favorite “musician”

  • Prince Akeem

lol even eminem himself said relapse was shit. with that jamaican accent hahaha

  • @kasuwell

I did and it was garbage

  • ill wait

why are you so salty lol

B-list rappers influencing you as an individual is irrelevant in a discussion that appeals to general consensus

you can refuse to acknowledge it all you want and kill yourself in some pointless spiteful gesture (such a stupid thing to say lol), it won’t change the fact that kanye is the most influential artist of the last decade and the state of the genre would be vastly different if not for him

  • Djincks

your opinion couldn’t be more irrelevant to me.

because i know that no one (worth to call an artist) will say one day “kanye influenced me like nas, beastie boys, tupac (and so on) did decades ago”

    face it.

  • ill wait

Nas, Jigga, Q-Tip, RZA, Ghostface, Raekwon, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def and plenty more legends have cosigned Kanye lul

Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J. Cole, Chance, any of these bigger new school artists, all cite Ye as one of their greatest influences

Notice that none of this is opinion

    do some research friend

  • DarkAssKnight

like you listen to any body better

  • penda

almost any relevant rapper that is coming up or came up following the release of Graduation says that. not to mention the scores of artists outside of hip hop that also count him in their influences.

you can dislike him all you want but trying to say nobody “worth to call an artist’ was influenced by him just cause you weren’t is a complete and utter lie.

btw, logic and skrillex were influenced by kanye.

Why am I not surprised at this? Elton has been saying he’s a hip hop fan since the late 90’s. I was surprised at how much he raved about Mos Def’s “Black On Both Sides”.
