Tonight, the 2014 mtvU Woodie Awards aired and in order to properly start the show off right, the program enlisted Lil Wayne as the opening performer. Weezy popped onto the stage and teased the crowd with only the beginning of his “A Milli” before welcoming the audience to the show. Then after Wayne transitioned into doing what he does best and dropped a surprise freestyle on the crowd.
Also performing this year was Childish Gambino, who really lit up the show (pun INTENDED heh) by entering the stage wearing rows of colorful Christmas lights. He started off singing the hook to his “3005,” and then ditched the lights and moved into “Sweatpants.” Watch replays of Wayne’s performance above and Gambino’s below.
