Back at it. Had an interesting convo with an interesting artist recently and it made me realize that the path I am taking right now is right on the goddamn money. The balance of the electronic music scene is alive and thriving, but people are too busy shoegazing and trainspotting to understand it. Done trying to justify my stance; I’ll just be over here trying to soundtrack your afternoon. This week’s best in EDM, quickfast because you need it.
ZHU – “Cocaine Model”
The ZHU mystery is long gone, and all that we’re left with is great music. You can’t tell me that tracks like “Cocaine Model” aren’t winners.
Duck Sauce – “NRG”
This song is ultra-catchy; the sample’s been stuck in my head all week. It doesn’t help that the video is just so oddly amazing that you can’t help but continue to play it.
Lorde – “Tennis Court (Flume Remix)”
Of course Flume’s remix of “Tennis Court” is amazing. Of course it is.
Boys Noize – “Starwin (Bounce Version)”
This worked like gangbusters as a hybrid disco/acid/house number, and throwing that bounce vibe underneath takes it into a different lane. Clean your house to this.
Nick Catchdubs – Dark Disco Promo Mix
Dark Disco goes down TONIGHT, and will feature Nick Catchdubs and The Gaslamp Killer going in. Nick cooked up a special promo mix, and it’s the tits.
Worthy – Hit Me EP
Worthy brings that insane, bass-loving house sound to the forefront. He knocked out a free EP for OWSLA’s Nest and it’s two tunes that will keep you shaking whatever ass is still attached to your body.
Dudley Slang – “Hoez”
Vulgar ghetto tech house beats from France. So all about everything in this track.
813 – XOXO EP
Real talk, Russia has been putting out some interesting electronic sounds over the last year or so. Here’s one fierce EP from 813, that got the co-sign from Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s imprint. Turnt.
DJ Rashad – We On 1 EP
The juke/footwork don is back with a new four-tracker for Wheez-ie’s Southern Belle imprint. So necessary.
Slick Shoota – “Keep Bussin’ (Om Unit Remix)”
Om Unit never disappoints.
The Rub’s Do Androids Dance Guest Mix
The Rub also goes down tonight in Brooklyn, and they went in for DAD with a special dance music mixdown. Gotta respect the Frankie Knuckles big up in the intro.
Stray – “Eazy Boy”
This week’s credits roll with a fierce number from Stray, a UK producer who went from the nastiest of jungle beats to really incorporating his love of head-nodding hip-hop into the mix. This is what happens when worlds collide. Until next week…
