During a recent interview with Tim Westwood, Danny Brown discussed his trying journey of giving up one of rap’s most popular drug of choice, lean. “You don’t have no syrup for three days, you might shit on yourself,” recalls Brown, whose withdrawal took roughly two weeks, and aligns syrup’s addictiveness with “liquid heroin.”
His main concern with lean, though, was actually the weight gain. “I was getting too fat, man. I gained, like, 15 pounds [...] You can’t wear Rick Owens looking pregnant. You can’t have a Gucci Mane belly and wear high-end fashion.”
Danny’s weight gain, as he reveals, mostly comes from all the sugar from the soda that’s used to make lean. At one point, he apparently drank two liters of soda by himself. Though he’s not had any for a few months now, Danny’s still experiencing the consequences of his addiction, noting that the taste still lingers in his mouth. In sum: don’t do lean, kids, because it’s highly addictive, and you’ll most likely get fat.
