Dear Desert – “Give It Up”

Dublin-based trio Dear Desert describes their sound as “mixing driving rhythms, expansive synths and emotive pop melodies.” Accurate in its broad strokes as that depiction may be, it doesn’t quite pin down the rousing retro-lean (particularly in production that feels both of the moment and pleasantly past-looking) and spirit of debut single “Give It Up.”

Nodding to the work of Tears for Fears without wallowing in the what’s already been made, “Give It Up” packs soul where most other synth-pop polishes the edges and grit out of the equation. It’s a welcome, emotional take on a genre that can often feel devoid of a human core. Listen below.
