The nudibranch is a marine gastropod mollusk and is a close relative to the sea slug. During their shelled larval stage (they lose their shells as they reach adulthood), nudibranchs (pronounced "NOOD-ih-BRANKS) undergo a process called "torsion," where the top half of their bodies twist 180 degrees, resulting in the gills and anus above the head (talk about awkward).
