10. Book title
The title is a play on a 1990 Spike Lee joint, Mo’ Better Blues, a film about an aging trumpeter frustrated by the waning support of his music in the black community. A dialogue from the film was actually ripped for the intro to Things Fall Apart. Quest has felt a connection to this film, as he writes of using it for the intro, "That problem—how to stay true to our idea of music and also be appropriately inviting to audiences, how to court audiences without compromising the music we were making—was something that had plagued us since the beginning." It’s been a century-long struggle for Quest to stay authentic—not sell-out—but to stay relevant and make money. But he's got it more figured out than most.
