In an age where your Instagram can have just as much effect on your image as your music, artists need to be proactive in many areas. As we’ve said before, music is a business like any other. A good product won’t bring you success unless you can communicate effectively with your target audience. This communication happens in every decision that you make, from the clothes you wear to the tweets you send to your music and videos.
Thanks to the internet, artists have more power than ever to make and execute their own creative decisions. People like Tyler the Creator, Raury, and Childish Gambino are pushing the limits of what a musician can be. If you want to keep up, you need to expand your horizons beyond music. These are the things (beyond having great music) that independent artists can do to increase their chances of success.
